America is In the Heart
In celebration of Philippine American History Month – Amazon and Barnes & Nobles now have the best-selling 12-hours Book CD entitled “America is in the Heart” by Carlos Bulosan narrated by Jose Horstmann Omila of Tampa, Florida. This book was recorded in 2004.
First published in 1946, this autobiography of the well-known Filipino poet describes his boyhood in the Philippines, his voyage to America, and his years of hardship and despair as an itinerant laborer following the harvest trail in the rural West. Bulosan does not spare the listener any of the horrors that accompanied the migrant’s life; but his quiet, stoic voice is the most convincing witness to the terrible events experienced by Filipino immigrants of that period.
Narrator Jose Hortsmann Omila is the current Executive Director and of the Philippine Performing Arts Company and is the Director of Cultural Affairs and founding Director of the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. of Tampa, Florida.
