Ana Maria – A Filipino Sarzuela Comes Back in September
After a successful premiere during PhilFest in April 2012, the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. is proud to present “Ana Maria”, a Filipino Zarzuela, at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 3:00PM and 6:30 PM. This comic Philippine musicale, which was popular in the 1920’s, was collaboration by Filipino composer and national artist Antonio Molina (1894-1980) and playwright Severino Reyes (1861-1942), aka Lola Basyang.
“Ana Maria” will be brought to you by Rhovi Anne Allado and Jeanette Pangilinan as Anang, Vic Omila as Timo, James Jamo as Don Pedro, Rose Demille as Dona Doray and Aga Villagomeza as Menggoy. This production is directed by Nhick Ramiro Pacis, costume designer Joey Omila, stage managers Ann Bartlett and Catherine Alcivar, technical assistance by Evan Pangilinan. The project is co-chaired by PCFI Board members, Dr. Patsy Abinales and Olive Santiano.
“Ana Maria” revolves around the marriage of a husband and wife as put to the test by the evils of “sabong” or cockfighting which is a popular gambling game in the Philippines.
