Auditions for a Musical Theater Production
The Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. is announcing auditions for a Filipino sarzuela to be performed at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center in Tampa, Florida from March 2-4, 2012. This will be a premiere performance of a Filipino-American theater group designed to be an additional cultural arm of the Foundation and aiming to perform music theater works written by Filipino-American artists.
This comic theater piece is entitled “Ana Maria”, a Filipino sarzuela written by Severino Reyes (aka Lola Basyang) with music composed by Philippine National Artist Antonio Molina. One of the most performed sarzuelas in the Philippines, “Ana Maria” is a comic musical play about the journey of a self-sacrificing wife and her husband who is obsessed with the pleasures of the cockpit.
Cast:
1. A young woman in her 20’s – 30’s.
2. A young man in his 20’s – 30’s.
3. Elder woman, 30-50 years old
4. Elder man, 30-50 years old
5. Man, 20-50 years old.
Prerequisites:
1. Must be able to act and sing (sightreading is optional but a plus)
2. Must be able to speak Tagalog fluently.
3. Must be able to attend regular rehearsals at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center in Tampa every Thursday at 7PM until show date and additional rehearsal dates as required.
Auditions will be held at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center from Tuesday to Friday, November 15-18 from 1PM to 6PM and Saturday, November 19 from 10AM – 2PM.
