Barrio Fiesta 2014
The Pilipino American Association of Tampa Bay, Inc. (PAAT), in cooperation with the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. (PCFI), is once again proud to bring you “Barrio Fiesta and Santacruzan 2014” at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 12:00 noon to 6:00pm.
Call it a mini-PhilFest but just as enjoyable, “Barrio Fiesta” recreates a typical community festival in the Philippines: abundance of food, non-stop music entertainment, native (and culturally acquired) games for all ages and a variety of merchandise for shopping. The “Santacruzan”, the highlight of the event, is a parade presenting muses from the community. This is derived from a Philippine May-event, a religious pageant towards the end of “Flores de Mayo”, where the prominent ladies in town parade in the streets representing various titles of the Virgin Mary in honor of Helena of Constantinople (known as Reyna Elena) and Constantine the Great.
Entertainers at “Barrio Fiesta 2014” include local Tampa Bay Are Filipino-American artists, volunteer association groups and performances by the Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble and Philippine Performing Arts Company, Inc.
General admission to “Barrio Fiesta 2014” is $5.00, children 5 and under, free.
The Bayanihan Arts and Events Center is located at 14301 Nine Eagles Drive, Tampa, FL 33626.
For more information, please contact Joey at (813) 782-0102 or Aurora Fortson at (813) 390-8476. If interested in joining the “Santacruzan”, please contact Abigail Hammilton at (813) 817-1905.
Bring your family and friends and see you all at this joyous event!
