Chorus and Laughter: UP Concert Chorus and Nanette Inventor in Tampa, Florida
The Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. Music, Dance, Theater and Art Program, in cooperation with Friends of Chorus Foundation, is proud to bring the world-renowned University of the Philippines Concert Chorus and the incredibly funny Nanette Inventor in a combined show entitled “Chorus and Laughter” at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 7:30PM.
The UP Concert Chorus, UPCC, or simply Korus, is the official choir of the University of the Philippines. As an internationally-competitive performing group, Korus has mastered versatility in singing classical, folk, pop and Broadway musical genres with signature vibrant choreography. Korus has become a veritable icon of performing arts, as the pioneer of ChoreoCapella or choreographed a capella, in the Philippines.
Led by Professor Janet Sabas-Aracama, the “Korus” garnered the Grand Prix at the 6th International Krakow Choir Festival in Poland on June 14, 2015 for being the best choir of the festival, besting 23 other choirs from all over Europe and the USA. Korus won the First Prize in the Folk Category and Second Prize in the Mixed Category at the Festival Internacional de Musica de Cantonigros in Catalonia, Spain. Korus also won the Gold Diploma and Audience Prize at the 9th Cantemus International Festival in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. With all of these international recognitions, Korus was feted with the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Aliw Awards Foundation and the 2013 Ani ng Dangal Award by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Throughout the years, Korus has proven that it has done more than just showcasing exceptional talents. With a brilliant 53-year tradition of compelling interpretations, vibrant choreography, theatrical expressions, eye-catching costumes, and a charisma that is uniquely Filipino, UPCC continues to revolutionize choral performance arts in the country and even across the world.
Nanette Inventor, who is a UP Concert Chorus alumnus herself, is a singer, actress and comedienne. From chorus member to professional back-up singer in “The Filipina”, she also established herself as a radio and television commercial artist and eventually became popular as “Doña Maria Leonila Evaporada Casinday Viuda de Ford” otherwise known as “Doña Buding” meant as a vhicle for social satire by writer Jose Javier. Nanette also interpreted Gary Granada’s “Salamat Musika” which won the 7th Metro Manila Popular Music Festival and consequently the Seoul Song Festival. In 1986, she was already branching out to major television roles in “Por Kilo” and “In Da Money” while representing the Philippines in major Asian events like Asean Forum Convention, Asean Music Festival as well as major stints various US venues like the Carnegie Hall and the like with other artists like Rico J. Puno, Geneva Cruz, Ogie Alcacid, Francis Magalona and Dulce.
From 2009 to 2013, Nanette Inventor continued to freelance between ABS-CBN-Channel 2- Kapamilya, GMA Channel 7 – Kapuso and Channel 5-Kapatid) doing sitcoms and primetime television shows. In 2015, she began a new television series “On the Wings of Love” with ABS-CBN playing the flamboyant grannie.
Admission tickets to “Chorus and Laughter” are priced at $30 (General Admission) and $75 (VIP Seating). Sponsorships are also welcome and appreciated.
