IUSA Completes 4th Computer Mission
Ilocano U.S.A., a 13-year old 501C (3 ) member organization under the umbrella of the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. has just completed its fourth and last computer mission to donate refurbished computers to needy high schools in the Ilocos Region.
The organization started its first computer mission, chaired by Roger Caculitan, in June 2003. IUSA raised funds to purchase 120 refurbished computer sets, to donate to 10 high schools in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Cagayan province and Mountain Province. It also raised funds for the round trip fares of 12 high school students, most of whom were children of IUSA members. They conducted computer workshops for their high school counterparts in the Philippines.
In January of 2006 the second computer mission, again chaired by Roger Caculitan, donated 300 computers to 36 high schools.
The third computer mission was chaired by Manny Domisiw and 300 computers were donated to 42 high schools.
The fourth, again chaired by Manny Domisiw, was in February 2013 and 100 laptops were donated to 20 high schools. To date, IUSA has donated a total of 820 computers to 110 needy high schools in Northern Luzon.
IUSA thanks all its members and supporters who donated their used computers for refurbishing , helped in raising funds for buying refurbished computers, for sending the computers in 40-ft. containers and, in the case of the laptops, for sending them in balikbayan boxes. Thanks are also extended to the IUSA members who have graciously volunteered their time to go with the mission at their own personal expense to make sure that the computers all were handed over to the right recipients – the students.
IUSA’s president is Ross Balderama and membership is open to Ilocanos and non-Ilocanos who identify with the association’s goals and objectives.
