Golf Tournament for Sendong Victims
On December 16, 2011, heavy rains from Tropical Storm Washi, known locally as Sendong, combined with high tides and strong currents to produce flash floods in the Mindanao island group in the southern Philippines, particularly in the most affected Iligan and Cagayan de Oro. Flash floods occurred at night while most people were asleep, increasing the death toll, according to local media reports. As of December 21, floods and accompanying landslides had killed more than 1,500 people and affected approximately 500,000 others, displacing nearly 44,000 people to 62 evacuation centers.
The Philippine Cultural Foundation, along with the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce, Gawad Kalinga and Emerald Greens Golf Resort, invites you to play in the Philippine Disaster Recovery Golf Tournament on January 22nd at 12:00 pm. The entry fee is $100 per player. It will be a scramble format and players of all skill levels are welcome to come out and support this special cause. There will be a potluck award reception at the Philippine Cultural Enrichment Complex (Philippine Village) immediately following the tournament. Friends and family encouraged to come to the reception.Gawad Kalinga will be in charge of organizing the reception.
Hole sponsorships are available at $100 per individual or $200 per business. 100% of the proceeds will go to the direct aid of those in the Philippines.
