Operation Tulong 2013: Help Earthquake Victims in Bohol and Cebu
The Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with all its eighteen member organizations and the Bohol, Cebu and Sto. Nino Shrine organizations and Gawad Kalinga in the Tampa Bay Area, will be hosting a fundraising drive named “Operation Tulong 2013” on Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 12 noon to 6pm at the Philippine Cultural Enrichment Complex (aka PhilFest Grounds / Philippine Village) in Tampa, Florida. This event aims to appeal to Filipino-Americans to help earthquake victims in Bohol and Cebu, Philippines.
On October 15, 2013, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the Bohol and Cebu area, killing 171 people and injuring more than 300. It has also caused massive damage to homes, offices, heritage sites, roads and other infrastructures, affecting more than 3 million residents.
PCFI’s “Operation Tulong 2013” will attempt to raise funds through games, entertainment and food which includes a highlight basketball exhibition game between ex-PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) players like Ed Naron and Frankie Padilla together with their team from Orlando, Florida against selected players from the local Filipino Basketball Association. There will also be karaoke singing and entertainment provided by local Filipino-American artists while food and drinks will be provided through the generousity of local residents and through the efforts of PCFI’s committees like the Sampaguita Ball Ladies headed by Lucy Bautista.
Suggested donation to join “Operation Tulong 2013” is $10 although a more generous amount will be much appreciated!
