FRIDAY, APRIL 4 SCHEDULE
“ARTE” and Cultural Exhibit
10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Bayanihan Arts and Events Center
Participants from the ARTE On-the-Spot Art Competition showcase their works at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center. Also on exhibit are paintings by Filipino Artist Jun Alfon and Philippine Cultural Exhibit of national costumes, musical instruments, crafts and others.
Consulate-on-Wheels Dual Citizenship Ceremony
4:00 PM, Sinagtala Theater
The Philippine Consular Outreach Program ends its services with a Dual Citizenship Ceremony at the Sinagtala Theater. This officially starts PhilFest 2014.

Now on its 12th performing season, the Tallahassee Community College Dance Company graces the PhilFest stage every year. Director and choreographer Aurora Torres-Hansen creates pieces that are folkloric based using movement and music by Filipino composers and interjecting modern and ballet dance in the choreography.

Philippine Cultural Show

Opening Cultural Show by PCFI’s cultural arms: Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble (directed by Nhick Ramiro Pacis), Philippine Choral Group (conducted by Connie Chanrasmi) and Philippine Performing Arts Company, Inc. (choreographed by Joey Omila). The show culminates with “Sayaw, Awit at Musika”, a medley of all-time favorite Philippine classics.

Dead in the Past Band

Dead In The Past is a four-piece alternative/acoustic band consisting of Camila Acosta (vocals), Cameron Valdez (guitar), Casey Mattos (drums) and Donovan Uy (keys). Fairly fresh in the Tampa music scene, the band aims to conjure up a thrilling atmosphere and capture audiences with a raw sound. The members all have different backgrounds and influences that combined create a rare sound and chemistry.

Tropical Rhythms from Houston, TX (Dance 1)

Now on its second time at PhilFest, Tropical Rhythms Performing Arts Company was formed to promote culture through the arts. The members are from a pool of multi talented performers. Tropical Rhythms has been gracing the stages of festivals and cultural events in Houston, Texas since 1996.

FASC Filipiniana Dancers is a cultural arm of the Fil-Am Social Club of Hernando County and Pasco Chapter. Their dance represents the Spanish period of the Philippines when Western European ways of life spread throughout the islands. The dances showcases the mestiza Filipina as well as the gallantry and boldness of the mestizo Filipino. The dance is a flirtatious one that also involves the graceful use of tambourines by the women.

A power duo that has been entertaining audiences, large and small, for over ten years. Amanda is a multi-awarded singer who is now in her senoir year of IB program at St. Petersburg High School while Don is a nurse and works as a Community Health Nurse Coordinator for the BayPines Healthcare system.

Established in 1991, PPAC presents Philippine culture through dance, music, costume and art. Directed and choreographed by Joey Omila, the group performs extensively throughout Florida and other US states.
TFC Hour featuring Xian Lim and Gelo of Barangay USA

The Filipino Channel presents Xian Lim and Gelo of Barangar USA in an hour of fun at PhilFest 2014! Xian Lim is famous for playing the roles of Andy in the series, “My Binondo Girl” in 2011 and now, Rocco in the movie, “Bride for Rent”, one of the top-grossing Filipino movies of all time. Gelo is everybody’s favorite “Kulot Na Kabaranggay” (Curly-Haired Neighbor) who’s always ready with a quick quip and fun frolic. Need some cheering up? Gelo can have you in stitches in an instant whenever you find yourself in a “hairy” situation.

Performing for more than ten years now, Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble, directed by Nhick Ramiro Pacis continues to entertain through special arrangements and compositions as played on a set of tuned bamboo tubes called Angklungs
Philippine Choral Group

With an extended membership consisting of Filipino-Americans from a more varied range ethnicity, age and profession, bound together by the passion for singing. Under the continued leadership of its founder, PCFI Board Member Olive Santiano, and the music directorship of former Philippine Madrigal Singer, Connie Chanrasmi, the group has participated in almost every Filipino-American event in the Tampa Bay Area.

CITIZEN PINOY is now on its ninth year of providing public service to Kapamilya across the US. In a continuing effort to bring Kapamilya the latest immigration updates, the award-winning and most trusted immigration show goes to Tampa, Florida on Sunday, APRIL 6, 2014. CITIZEN PINOY, hosted by leading US immigration attorney Michael Gurfinkel, will be part of PhilFest, giving the chance to address the immigration concerns of the community in Tampa and neighbor areas like Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Largo, Brandenton, Sarasota, and North Port.

Philippine Street Dancing Competition between organizations. “Yugyugan” mimics the huge street dancing events in various towns and cities in the Philippines which are normally held during special festivals to honor patron saints, celebrate bountiful harvests or commemorate local pride in music, art and crafts. These are usually huge productions in full costumes and elaborate choreography as the townsfolk go about dancing in the streets.
