Tallahassee Community College Dance Company

Now on its 13th performing season, the Tallahassee Community College Dance Company graces the PhilFest stage every year. Director and choreographer Aurora Torres-Hansen creates pieces that are folkloric based using movement and music by Filipino composers and interjecting modern and ballet dance in the choreography.

Philippine Cultural Show

Opening Cultural Show by PCFI’s cultural arms: Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble (directed by Nhick Ramiro Pacis), Philippine Choral Group (conducted by Connie Chanrasmi) and Philippine Performing Arts Company, Inc. (choreographed by Joey Omila). The show culminates with “Sayaw, Awit at Musika”, a medley of all-time favorite Philippine classics.

The Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. paves the way for Poca and Rey Kilay at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center. This special comedy show at PhilFest will surely entertain you and make you laugh! Please note that there will be a $20 entrance fee to see this show and is not part of the regular PhilFest entrance fee. For tickets, please call (813) 925-1232.

“ARTE” and Cultural Exhibit

Participants from the ARTE On-the-Spot Art Competition showcase their works at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center. Also on exhibit are paintings by Filipino Artist Jun Alfon and Philippine Cultural Exhibit of national costumes, musical instruments, crafts and others.

Luzviminda Arnis/Kali Brotherhood

Luzviminda Arnis Kali Brotherhood (L.A.K.B.) is a Filipino martial arts organization that aims to propagate the Filipino martial culture both in its classical form as well as it’s modern interpretation. Our aim is to teach an all-around knowledge of all the Filipino weapons as well as proficiency with empty hands. Luzviminda Arnis is not a sport but purely combat oriented fighting art.

Nine dancers who describe themselves as “Filipinos who love to dance” as, like their parents, believe that dancing keeps the mind and body healthy.

Jennifer Manangan

Jennifer Manangan has always been passionate in singing even at an early age. In 2012, she won first place at PhilFest’s Tanghalang Pambata”. She is known as the little girl who sang “God Bless America” at the Rays Stadium last year during the Tampa vs. Boston game.
Forever 40 “Famous Women in Philippine History”

In cooperation with the Fil-Am Theater Company of Tampa, the 4Ever40 Sisterhood Association presents a mime, featuring six famous women in Philippine history: Gabriela Silang, Melchora Aquino, Imelda Marcos, Cory Aquino and Miriam Defensor-Santiago. This script was written by Rose Demille. 4Ever40 Sisterhood Association is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to empower women through education in order to become self-sifficient.

Singers Cheryl Badiola and Don Bronto serenade Filipino and American Veterans with patriotic songs. Cheryl Badiola is a Tawag ng Tanghalan winner while Don is a nurse and works as a Community Health Nurse Coordinator for the BayPines Healthcare system.
GRAND FLORES DE PHILFEST PARADE

A replica of Flores de Mayo in the Philippines, this grand parade around the PhilFest grounds presents muses and their escorts as they march around the festival grounds in exquisite Filipino attires.
Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble

Performing for more than ten years now, Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble, directed by Nhick Ramiro Pacis continues to entertain through special arrangements and compositions as played on a set of tuned bamboo tubes called Angklungs
Philippine Choral Group

With an extended membership consisting of Filipino-Americans from a more varied range ethnicity, age and profession, bound together by the passion for singing. Under the continued leadership of its founder, PCFI Board Member Olive Santiano, and the music directorship of former Philippine Madrigal Singer, Connie Chanrasmi, the group has participated in almost every Filipino-American event in the Tampa Bay Area.
Lilac Cana

Lilac Cana is a Canadian producer,and recording artist with seven CD albums, who inspires people worldwide with her music. An honours graduate of the University of Toronto Opera Performance Program, and a scholarship recipient with the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, she also trained extensively in classical, musical theatre and contemporary music styles with some of the world’s best vocal coaches. Her performance career highlights include four years with the Canadian Opera Company Chorus, lead roles in opera and music theatre productions and concert soloist engagements with orchestras and choirs in Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Philippines.

Established in 1991, PPAC presents Philippine culture through dance, music, costume and art. Directed and choreographed by Joey Omila, the group performs extensively throughout Florida and other US states.

Rex Navarrete

Much has happened since the young Navarrete, then 19-year old, first stood up on stage as a comic at the annual Asian Pacific Islander Student Union conference at UC Santa Cruz in 1989. He has now travelled most of North America including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Singapore, Australia and, of course, Philippines from which he draws much of his stand-up comedy inspiration. He remains to be the most notable Filipino-American comedian to date, performing alongside the likes of George Lopez, DL Hughley and Paul Mooney, Regine Velasquez and others. Navarrete grew up in Cavite and Batangas, Philippines but moved to the US when he was three. He graduated from San Francisco State University and received his master’s degree from the University of Clifornia, Berkeley.
YUGYUGAN 2015

Philippine Street Dancing Competition between organizations. “Yugyugan” mimics the huge street dancing events in various towns and cities in the Philippines which are normally held during special festivals to honor patron saints, celebrate bountiful harvests or commemorate local pride in music, art and crafts. These are usually huge productions in full costumes and elaborate choreography as the townsfolk go about dancing in the streets.
