The Philippine Performing Arts Company, Inc. was established and incorporated as not-for-profit, publicly supported, tax-exempt organization on August 21, 1991. Its primary mission is to present Philippine culture through dance, music, costume and art. Recognition and visibility of this beautiful and exotic heritage through public cultural performances have helped strengthen the coalition and solidarity of Filipino-Americans and bolster national pride in the City of Tampa.
The company is under the direction of Joey Omila, a former member of the world-renowned Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company. He is the choreographer, artistic director as well as props and costume designer of the company.
Members of PPAC have performed throughout the US, including states such as Florida, Georgia, Texas and Washington, DC, since 1987. The company has performed in major productions at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in 1993, 1996, 1998 and 1999, “All American Picnic” at the Kennedy Space Center, “Sayaw-Pilipino” at the University of Texas, “A Salute to the Philippine Centennial” at the Broward County Convention Center, “Festival of Asia” in Miami and others. PPAC was also a three time champion at the Valdosta International Folk Fair Dance Competition in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
In 2009, the company was invited to become a member of the International Organization of Folk Art World (IOV) as well as the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF) which has given the company a unique opportunity to perform abroad. The company recently performed at the Carrasauga International Folk Festival in Missisagua, Ontario, Canada.
PPAC survives through the generous donations from private sectors and honoraria from its performances.
