Filipino Composer in Tampa Wins Choral-Writing Competition
Tampa-based Filipino composer/arranger Nhick Ramiro Pacis recently won the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay’s “2010 Christmas Carol Competition”, a national choral-writing competition held by the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. Pacis’ piece, “Parvule Christe” (Little Christ) will be premiered by the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay during the upcoming “A Holiday Pops” performances with The Florida Orchestra on December 10, 11 and 12, 2010 in the following venues:

Florida Orchestra,s “A Holiday Pops” is a joyous concert of all-time favorite yuletide tunes, Christmas carols, musical chestnuts and heart-felt holiday hits. Conducted by Richard Kaufman, this concert also features Shana Blake Hill, soprano, Gavid MacLeod, narrator, and the Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, conducted by James Bass, music and artistic director.
Nhick Ramiro Pacis is currently the in-house music director and IT manager of the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. and the music director of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Tampa, FL.
The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, under direction of Music and Artistic Director, Dr. James Bass, is an auditioned, highly select 110-voice volunteer chorus embracing a broad representation of singers from the entire Tampa Bay area. Founded in 1979 by Dr. Robert Summer The Master Chorale was later incorporated in 1988 as a 501(c)(3). Designated in 1989 as the “Principal Chorus of The Florida Orchestra”, The Master Chorale is featured annually on the Florida Orchestra’s Masterworks Season. In 1999 The Master Chorale was appointed as “Artist in Residence” at the College of Visual and Performing Arts School of Music at the University of South Florida.
