Winter Dances
The Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. and the South Carolina based Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre open PCFI’s 2018 cultural programming with “Winter Dances” at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 6:30 PM. “Winter Dances” is a collection of excerpts from “The Nutcracker”, “Le Carnaval Des Animaux” and others including various original choreographies with special participation of the Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble.
Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre (CYBT) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Murrells Inlet and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina engaged in the performing arts with a youth development focus. It was established by Liza Mata in 2006, as the performing company of Coastal Dance Centre, a training school which offers recreational and pre-professional dance programs.
Liza Mata received her formal dance training in the Philippines and was director of two dance schools for 27 years prior to moving to the United States with her family in 2002. She is a fully certified teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance and is also a Practical Teaching Supervisor for the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies Program of the Royal Academy of Dance. Her continuing professional development courses includes participation in teacher training programs and seminars, RAD Teachers courses, dance festivals and competitions in the United States, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines. In her more than forty years of dance teaching experience, she is producing students who are making careers as dance professionals and enthusiastic dance supporters.
Liza is the Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre Artistic and Executive Director of Coastal Dance Centre as well as Founder and Artistic Directoris the Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre. CYBT is also run by her daughter, Karen Mata who is Co-Artistic Director and Ballet Mistress.
“Winter Dances” will also feature a special participation of the Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble directed by Nhick Ramiro Pacis. MK is one of the cultural arms of PCFI.
“Winter Dances” is PCFI’s Classical Concert Series offering for its 2018 Cultural Programming. This is a free event with option to donate.
